There are many paths to the future. At Taipei American School we prepare our students in such a way that they may choose their path and be prepared to lead lives of profound intellectual, creative, and social consequence.
We are a bridge. Our students begin here, their minds open and eager, their goals and aspirations for the future setting their course. It is our duty as educators and guides to cultivate within them the intellectual and emotional fortitude to take on the challenges ahead. Our community bridges the traditions of the West with the spirit of the East. Our American-based educational program is augmented by a deep respect for learning, development, and achievement. Through our academic program, the rigor and discipline that we instill in our students, we have also become a bridge to the best American colleges and universities, and indeed colleges around the world.
For many students we are a bridge to a more thoughtful and articulated future. Bridging the development of students into engaged citizens and human beings is a rich and rewarding aspect of the Taipei American School experience.
The Taipei American School Board of Directors establishes a clear mission and vision, and strategic goals consistent with these. They also ensure the financial health, stability, and future of the school as well as select, support, and evaluate the TAS Head of School.
The TAS Board is a hybrid board consisting of nine elected Board members and four appointed Board members. Elected Board members are current TAS parents and serve for three-year terms. Appointed Board members are not current TAS parents and serve for four-year terms. The Elected Board members appoint the Appointed Board members by a vote within the Board. All Board members are volunteers and serve without compensation. The Board generally meets monthly and has two Association General Meetings a year.
A nominating committee made up of TAS parents seeks candidates from the parent community to run in the Board election. Information about the candidates is distributed to parents at the end of March. The Meet-the-Candidates program gives parents an opportunity to get to know the candidates and ask questions. The new Board members are announced at the spring Association General Meeting.
The TAS Board adheres to the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS) Principles of Good Practice.
