The Staffroom Podcast with Chey & Pav Episode 19: Textbooks

Podcasts

In Episode 19, Chey and Pav talk about the benefit of using Textbooks in the classroom. They begin the episode by talking about the different ways that they use textbooks in the classroom. They discuss how teachers have evolved and have moved away from being heavily reliant on them. Technology has helped cause this shift away from using textbooks, but also the stigma and judgement that is attached to using textbooks in the classrooms. Teachers are hesitant to admit that they find value in textbooks because it has become “unsexy” to use them in classroom teaching. There is a place for textbooks in the classroom, and teachers should feel comfortable with saying they find value in utilizing them to their fullest potential in the classroom. Textbooks are written by very credible authors, and the publishing process is a rigorous one that goes through a deep vetting process, and therefore, the content is generally very well thought out and valid.
