The Staffroom Podcast S1E11: Technology in the Classroom

The Staffroom Podcast with Chey and Pav Season 1 Episode 11: Technology in the Classroom

Podcasts

In Episode 11 of the first Season of The Staffroom with Chey and Pav, we, the Dynamic Duo of Educational Podcasts, talk at length about Technology in our classrooms. We discuss the types of technology that are available to our students at the school we teach at, and what types we feel are most effective. Pav discusses that there are Chromebooks, iPads, Laptops, Smartboards, desktop computers and even Microsoft tablets, and I go on to discuss how much we would like to have access to these items on a weekly basis.

We talk about the use of Chromebooks and iPads, as well as the use of different web-based programs, namely Google programs. Pav discusses the ways that teachers can infuse Technology into their current programs, with changing assignments year-to-year, and I go on to talk about my optimal technological learning environments, that I have worked hard to create in my English Language Arts program over the years. I also discuss the flexibility of learning that I get through use of the Chromebooks in the classroom – research becomes easy to supplement good lessons. Pav mentions the SAMR model (Substitution, Augmentation, Modification, Redefinition), and how many reluctant teachers often use technology as a substitute for things they are already doing in their classrooms, just now with Tech.

Pav and Chey share their experiences with technology classroom integration in their latest podcast.

In this episode, we introduce our third guest onto the “3 Enlightened Minutes” segment, Adam Kotowski, or Coach Adam, as he is lovingly known to his peers and mentees. Adam talks about his “Extraordinary Me” program, a Motivational and Mentorship program based on 3 pillars – Identity, Mission in Life and Beliefs. He can be contacted through his website and with his Twitter handle: @coachadam34.

Pav and I always talk about some anecdotal references in regards to our teaching practices during our episodes, and today is no exception. We discuss some experiences with technology that we have had in our classes before wrapping up the episode. This topic really resonated with us this week, and we were quite sure when we were planning prior to recording that others would find it relevant as well. We sign off with the traditional mantra: Inspire, Don’t Require. Always remember to be a Humble Servant, and “There’s always something to talk about in the Staff Room!”

Chey and Pav, two experienced middle school teachers from the Greater Toronto Area in Ontario, Canada, take listeners through the in’s and out’s of the field of Teaching, Learning and Leadership. Through their anecdotal, yet often comedic banter, laced with caring insightfulness, they take their audience into a conversation that is surely eye-opening and entertaining, while tackling some of the real, and ever-changing issues that exist in Education. Come join Chey and Pav; partake in the Staff Room chatter that all teachers and educators can connect with.
